CHARLESTON NEWS.
St Patrick's Day was kept as a close holiday in Charleston, all the Banks and most of the stores being shut, and only some trifling business was transacted at the Court house. There were not very many miners in town during the day, a great number being attracted outside to a spot of open ground some two hundred yards to the rear of the Post-office dam, where sundry sports in the shape of foot-ball, putting the stone, running, &c, were going on. The chief attraction however being a Cricket Match, —the first played in Charleston—between eleven town members of the Charleston Cricket Club and eliven miners. "We give the score from which it will be seen th e miners had it all their own way, beating the townsfolks in one innings with three runs to spare, unfortunately there was a fine shower of rain in the forenoon and afternoon which put the ground into a sad mash. The match recorded above might almost be termed a scratch match, the first comers to hand being put down as players, should a return match be played we doubt not the townspeople "will make a better show. In the evening there was a large guinea ball held in the Casino, the proceeds to go to the fund being raised for the relief of the widows and children of the Fenians executed at Manchester. This was very well attended in spite of the rain which commenced to pour down in torrents the whole night. Mr Aaronson's lottery was drawn on the evening of St. Patrick's-Day, at the European Hotel. The following is a list of the winning numbers, as declared by the committee who conducted the drawing -. —Nos. 1, 4, 8,11, 15, 20, 21, 22, 31, 35, 41, 40, 4S, 49, 54, 57, 63, GS, (59, 75, 77, 83, 8(3, 90, 93, 96, 103, 108, 110, 112, 120, 125, 133, 134, 135, 136, 137, 138, 141, 142, 145, 147, 168, 170, 172, 173, 182, 186, 191, 197.
