STEPHENSON'S ASSEMBLY ROOMS.

THE OPENING BALL. Last evening the opening ball of this assembly was held in the new rooms, Molesworth-street. The ball was well attended by a great number of residents in Westport, and we must say that a more select ball we never have seen on the West Coast; and as we understand it is the intention of Mr Stephenson to keep it as such, we have no doubt that it will prove successful. The want of such an institution as a select assembly has long been felt on this Coast, where the amusements forladies are so few, and we must congratulate Mr Stephenson on the success he has so far obtained. The difficulty of keeping such an institution as an assembly-room select, can scarcely be understood, except to habitues of the ball-room, and when we state that the onerous task of rejection must necessarily attend those who endeavor to keep a ball-room select the difficulty can be well understood. The refreshment-ta'iie was picture, and comprised every del'cacy in season, and the band was excellent. The lateness of the hour at which the ball broke up precluded us from any lengthened notice, but we must congratulate Mr Stephenson on the success which has attended the inauguration of the first '• select assembly-room" on the West-Coast, and we feel certain that no lady will, fit is kept up on the same principle as it is commenced, obect to becoming a member of the assembly.
