There was one of the best houses of the season at the Empire Theatre,'on Friday evening, on the occasion of Mr •J. W. Black's benefit. Though presentin*? a different aspt ct to tire gay scene of the night before, when the beautiful dres.-es of the Ladies, the gorgeous insignia of the order, and the brilliant uniforms of volunteers combined, to render the Oddfellows' B.ill such a marked success, the thickly crowded seats of the theatre were no dmbt satisfactory •enough indications of what is called a ' full house.' The dramatic pieces were' the Scotch play of •• The Cramond Brig," and the farce of •' Winning a Husband." Mr Black was great as Jock, the gude man, and it 'a sip rfluous so say was vociferously applauded throughout the evening, for his inimitable singing as well as acting. A variety of entertainments in the shaj e of songs and dances intervened between the two pieces—Mr Skinner, Mr Tommy Peel, and others, doing thenbest to make the evening pass pleasant ly.

The new survey-office is now completed, and considerable progress is being made in tlie construction of a residence for the post-master. These buildings will certain y give the Camjj Reserve a more populous api earan e.

We understand that Messrs Foyu and Sturt have made a positive engagement with the Nathan Troupe, who will appear at the Theatre Eoyal, Casino de Venise, immediately ;,fter the termination of the operatic season.
