The barque Ellen S. Pago, was towed over the bar yesterday afternoon at 4 p.m., after an uninteresting passage from Newcastle of twelve days. She left Newcastle on Thursday the 23rd of January with light N.E. wind and hazy weather. On Monday 27th, she experienced light and variable S.E. wind, which at 4 p.m. increased to a gale, which lasted with undiminished fury for 48 hours. On Wednesday night the wind moderated and veered more to the eastward, which wind she held until she sighted Cohr.an's Head on Saturday the Ist inst. Made the Grey at 4 p.m. on Sunday morning, with light S.E. wind ; at mid day the wind shifted to N.W., variable, but on Sunday night it veered round to S.E. with rain and very thick hazy weather. Rounded the Steeples at 8 a.m. yesterday morning, and cruised about outside the bar until taken in by the Southland. She brings 92 head of very large fine cattle in splendid condition, having lost 5 on the voyage. The Kennedy steamed over the bar for Nelson at 4 p.m, yesterday, and at 5 p.m. the Nelson followed suit, bound for Greymouth and Ilokitika.
The schooner Day Dawn left Manukau on the 24th January with 4 passengers and a general cargo of produce. She made the port on Sunday evening and came safely over the bir yesterday evening, at 6 p.m.
