CHARLESTON NEWS.
We are very glad to see a very full house at tlie Empire Theatre on Monday night, on the occasion of Miss Annie Merton's benefit. A very attractive bill of fare had been prepared, and the variety offered, together with the number of encores which Mrßlack's songsreceved, carried on the time so fast that it was past midnight before the performances were over. Miss Merton's Margery in the " Rough Diamond," was remarkably good, and was well supported by Cousin Joe, excellently played by Mr W. H. Newton.
The fall of rain on Friday night proved very acceptable, not only to the mining community but to the townspeople also, the la*e dry weather having exhausted the ordinary small supplies.
We believe it is likely an amateur performance will shortly take place for the benefit of the Hospital.
