About throe o'clock vest onlay afternoon, 'much disappointment was occasioned by the mail steamer Rarigitoto, again passing the port without calling, notwithstanding that there were several passengers waiting for her, and a quantity of gold awaiting shipment by her, and it is believed there are a number of passengers on board of her for thin port. She was steering smith for Hokitika, whence she is to sujl direct for Melbourne.

The steamer Ahuriri was seen in the offing yesterday evening, and will probably enter with this morning's tide. She is believed to have on bonrd a heavy cargo of live-stock from Wanganui. The Southland went out yesterday morning with the Excelsior in tow, and returned immediately after casting her off'. The bar was almost without a ripple upon it, and a great number of porpoises tumbling about outside, which seamen always consider an indication of settled weather. Late last night she towed in the top-sail schooner Albatross from Manukau.

The s.s. Wnipara arrived in this port yesterday afternoon nt 2 o'clock, having left for the south on the 23rd (Thursday) at 11 p.m. She arrived oft'the Grey bar on Friday morning, crossed the bar at one o'clock a.m., landed cargo, took in 5 tons coals, and proceeded to Hokitika at 11.30. Arrived off the Hokitika bar at 2 p.m. and crossed the bar at 6 p.m., found nine feet of water on the bar at half• flood ; left again on Saturday at noon, and arrived at Fox's at 6 p.m., lay at anchor all night; Sunday morning steamed down to Chbrleston Bay at 9 a.m., discharged 20 tons cargo and landed a few pasiengers; left again two hours and a-half afterward, and arrived here as above. Reports fine weather throughout the trip. The Waipara leaves for Mokihinui this morning, and returns to-morrow.
