CHARLESTON NEWS.
Attracted by an announcement from the bellman, a number of persons assembled at Hanney's Hotel on Monday evening, to hear an address from Mr A. M'Carthy, who has come forward as a candidate. The crowd was so great as n >t only to fill the small room used for the occasion, but cram the only passage leading thereto, so that it was almost impossible to effect an entrance after the business of the evening had ■commenced, and we regret being unable ou that account, to give a direct report of Mr iM'Carthy's speech. After Mr M'Carthy had spoken, a number of qnestions were put by several gent'emen present, chiefly, however, by Mr Savage, and mostly on mining subjects, all of which were answered by the candidate to the satisfaction of the company. Mr Irvine then proposed the usual resolution, that Mr M'Carthy was a proper man to represent the district, which, being put to the meeting by the chairman (Mr Drury) was carried unanimously.
