RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Wednesday, Jan. 15. (Before J. Giles, Esq., M.D., E.M.) AN AFFECTIONATE HUSBAND. Joseph Kelly was charged on the information of his wife, Ann Kelly, with having beaten her several times the preceding day; once in the presence of a constable. Constable Pringle deposed to having heard a woman's screams about 11 o'clock the previous night, proceeding from prisoner's house. On going there he found both doors fastened, and being unable to obtain admission, forced the back door open, and found the complainant lying on the floor, quite senseless and her husband kicking her. She was much bruised about both the face and body and considerably injured. The prisoner was sentenced to one week's imprisonment with hard labor. VAGRANCY. C'iarlcs Davis was charged under the Vagrant Act with idling about without visible means of support, and an attempt was made to connect him with certain petty larcenies of linen and other matters recently committed, but the evidence failed to bring these home to him, and he was discharged, with a caution from the Bench that if again brought up ho would be dealt with more summarily.
