CHARLESTON NEWS.
I A public meeting of subscribers to the Hospital was advertised to be beld on Eriday evening, but on proceeding -to the Melbourne Hotel some time -after the hour appointed, we found I only the members of the committee and two casuals, who might, perhaps, have been made to represent the "public" on a pinch; but it was deemed advisable to postpone the meeting to Tuesday evening evening next. Making every allowance for the sort of horror of public meetings of every kind which seems to pervade the Charleston community, it is yet really too bad that so little interest is taken concerning the maintenance and management of an important instiItution like the Hospital. We trust there will be a better show made at the meeting on Tuesday. The Nile Bridge appears to have taken up a firm position; no further change in its condition since the slip. It continues open for traffic, and loaded drays pass backwards and forwards without difficulty or apparent danger.
