MR HUTCHISON, S.M., AND THE CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
On Saturday Mr Hoijg, M.H.11., having ascertained from tho Clerk of the Court that Mr Hutchison, S.M., was in Wellington, telegraphed to the address furnished informing that gentleman that bis refusal to grant a. permit under the Licensing Act for the Caledonian Sports was exciting dissatisfaction; that thero was a probability of a public meeting being called; and requesting him to reconsider his decision. In reply, in the course of the afternoon, Mr Hogg received tho following wire Wellington, 28th Dec., 1895. A. W, Hogg, ESQ., M.H.11,, Mastertou.
In replying to your telegram re Caledonian Sports I rcfusod tlio pormit only after enquiry and receiving adverse reports. lam sorry there is nothing in your telegram which should cause me to niter my decision, Popular clamour does noi influence me in the least. T. Hutchison, S.M'. _ We understand that Mr Hutchison is likely to return to Mastorton this evening, and that the application will then be renewed.
