ANOTHER POLICE SCANDAL
Mr Hutchison, S.M., lias refused to sign ft permit for a publican's booth nt the Caledonian Sports. It is understood that in tliiß matter lie lias acted on fcho recommendation of the police, and that the police are acting in the interests of the Masterton publicans. An outsido man—Mr Searl—lias purchased the booth privilege and the Masterton publicans don't like this. Ai the request | of the Caledonian Society, Mr Hogg, M.H.R., has represented the affair to tlio Government. It is a pity that n question of this kind should crop up in connection with the Caledonian mooting. If tho objection was 011 any dofined public ground we might support it, but the trouble seems to havo arisen from a purely personal and selfish source.
