Tho annual sports of the Mauriceville Athletic Club were held' yesterday, The day, excepting tho heat, was everything that could be desired for the occnsion, and everyone present seomSd to thorouhgly enjoy themselves. All the events wore contested in a most friendly The sawing competitions-and tiff wrestling were about tho most popular events of the day, with the exception, perlmps, of tho committee's handicap, which was won by Mr Guilder Gunderson the popular and energetic president of the club. The llauriceville handicap was a comparatively easy thingfor A. Edmonds, who was in grand running form, and no one could be found to tackle Mr F. Kummer for the. heavy-weight wrestling match. All the officers and committeo worked hard to mako matters run smoothly and successfully, and in this they thoroughly succeeded. Mr Gunder Gunderson, the president, and Mr G. Franklin, the secretary, deserve every praise for their efforts in making the meeting a success. Mr Pelling, of the Eketahuna Hotel, had the publican's booth, aud Mr Williams, tho Mauricoville baker, had a luncheon and refreshment booth, Mr Williams' arrangements wore first-class', aud if he keeps up tho same degree of excellence lie will soon establish himself a public caterer. Gray, of Eketahuna, was in atteSJJf ance, but his services were not called into requisition. Tho Greytown Brass Band played somo excollent music, which added much to the pleasure of tho day. There were about 400 people present. Following are the results of contests:—
