CAUGHT STEALING A LETTER.

A BOY'S SENSATIONAL CRIME; Dunemn, Thursday. For some time past complaints have been made that letters with money have gone astray after being posted, After enquiry the detectives decided to watch the letter-boxes in the Post Office. As Detective O'Connor was so engaged to-night, ti boy of M years or so, named Herbert Orr, was noticed opening one of the boxes aud taking a letter, Tho detective slipped off his boots, but when ho had opened the door, the boy had put some distance between them. Just as the boy rounded into Priuces-stroot, ho looked buck and, seeing the detective, bolted. He went along Bond street aud down Water-street, tho detective following and crying out —" Stop I thief."

Just as tho detective was winded and foil, a man on horseback followed tlio boy, who went into a coal yard, On the detective making a search, ho found the boy in a water-closet, Orr, who had his hands on his breast, begged the detectivo to lot him off, and when the detectivo said he could not, the boy said ho would shoot himself. At ouce he fired a revolver ho was clasping in his hands, and the bullet entered his left breast about the region of the heart, Tho boy wns removed to the hospital, but is not expected to live through the night,
