MR REID'S PROMISES.

In the Legislative Assembly in reply to a question with regard to sweating in the clothing trade, Mi Reid said he had taken steps which would result insomothiugvery practical in ascertaining the real state of affairs. If a single shade of sweating was discovered in any Government 3ontrnct it would he cancelled, and the contractor would never be given mother. One of the most prominent lesires of the Government was to wing the law to bear upon the people ivho tried to grind tho life-blood out if human beings for a miserable irofit. Every other country in the vorld almost lmd legislation protectng women and girls in factories, lew South Wales was a disgraceful sample to the whole world, and as ho head of the Government he was etermined that the matter should be without delay.
