THE GUILDFORD TRAGEDY.

"WILFUL MURDER,"

KILLED WHILE ASLEEP,

At the inquest in connection with the Guilford tragedy, tho coroner's jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against Mrs Tronohard.

Tho evidenco wont to show that there wore no signß of a struggle, and that the deceased must havo been struck while asleep. Several witnesses deposed that the accused woman was a confirmed drunkard, and that sho was drunk on Saturday, wlion her husband borrowed somo nails from his employer to nail up tho door of the house. When be asked for the nails he remarked that bis wife was in such a torrible condition that he wanted to kcop her from making a show of him.

Tho Coroner advised the jury to roturn a vordictof murder.

All tho evidence oxcept that of accused pointed unanimously to the fact that tho fatal blow must have been struck while Trenchard was asleep.
