About the largest collection of reapers and binders ever got together in the Wairarapa forthe purposes of repairs, can now be seen on the premises of the Masterton Blacksmith and Wheelwright Manufacturing Company in Perry-street. There arc machines representing almost all the larger manufacturers in the world. The repairing of reapers and binders is now mnde a speciality by the Company, and they employ a special expert for that purpose. They arc agents for _ the Southland Farmers' Manufacturing and Engineering Company, and they carry a large stock of this Company's manufactures. There is now on view at tho Blacksmith Company's yard the acme of perfection in seed drills and manure distributors. This drill will sow almost every kind of farm seed from the smallest grass up to the largest seed used on the farm; the quantity of seed and also manure to be sown iothc acre,is regulated instantly by lover action. A special set of turnip coulters goes with tfie drill, and altogether it is one of the most complete tools of its kind yet brought into Masterton. A well-known Masterton Chinaman had to appear in the AVnirarapa District Court, yesterday, before His Honor Judge Kettle. He came smilingly forward when called. The Court asked if he did not require an interpreter. Mr Pownall said that his client did not, as although " pretty bail," he was " about the best," and was often called upon to act as interpreter for other local Chinamen. The heathen one then stepped into the box, ami was asked how he preferred to be sworn ? lie iutimated that it was a matter of indifference, and grabbed the Court Bible. The Bailiff, used to the usual method of swearing China's sons, went through the rigmarole winding up with, "If you don't speak (ho truth your hopes shall be blighted as the light you now blow out. Kiss the book." The Court was convulsed, and His Honor derided this would not quite do, At anyrate, Mr John Chinaman was allowed to proceed-and he did proceed, at (lie rule ol knots—on assuring lliej Court that he " welly plain spcakeo, ploutce understand all talkee English!"

Fruitgrowers in the Oainam district have a new bird pest to cope with, says the local paper. This season a bird new to the district Ims ninde its appearance, and strawberry growers have found to their cost that its depredations arc more extensive than anything they have yet had to deal with. The bird is described as tufted red-breasted, in shape like a goldfinch, but in colour differing from that bird, as also ill habit and disposition. Whole crops of strawberries have been ruined by the bird.

Williams and to Bannister's Estate Trustees asking for a reply at once so as not to delay the asphalting work. (.1) That the Town Clerk write to the owners of the Star block re timber required to prevent the asphalt tailing in under the building. (5). That the Clerk writo to owners of property re widening the south end of Chapelstreet. (6). That the magazine now on the Dixon-street reserve, be taken over by the Council, divided into compartments and let to tradespeople for the storage of gunpowder, etc Accounts as submitted were passed for payment and correspondence re licensing election expenses was referred back to the County Council.
