The following written statement has also been filed by bankrupt: — "On the Ist January, 1892,1 took over the business previously carried on by my father and self, my capital being £lO3. My father's executrix lent mo on interest, the amount duo tojtlie estate, viz: £1478, The large - - cxpenso involved by the paymeht of interest on this loan, and on accommodation from merchants, absorbed all profits. The business at the south branch having fallen off after my father's death, I closed it in September, to reduce the expenses, but tho bad times then ensuing, prevented 'any improvement being made in my position. Early in this year, I obtained a concession in the amount of interest payable, a fid reduced my expenses in otber ways. I have, however, not had time to feel the bonefit of these savings, while, on the other hand, the severity «the past, winter necessitated a siderable increase in tho book, debts, wliidi militated against me keeping my engagements with the merchants. In Octobor, I was called upon to assign : my estate to Messrs Cook and Gray V for the benefit of my creditors, which ;■1 did, but as somo of them were dissatisfied with this course, I was compelled to file a declaration of insolvency."
