MAURICEVILLE ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Board was hold on Saturday, the 30th November. Present—Messrs (J, Forsberg (Chairman), J. F. Heckler, F. \V. 11. Rummer, and C. Tnit, Leave of absence was granted to Mr P. Gleeson. The minutes of the previous meeting, were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read— From the Secretary to the Treasury, requesting further particulars as to why the extra 10 per cent, on loan for Central Mangamahoe Road, is required.—Tho Clerk was instructed to reply. From the Colonial Treasurer, provisionally approving of loan of £OOO for Bowen-road,—lt was decided to instruct tho Engineer to prepare plans for this road. From Commissioner of Crown Lauds,giving urea of parts of sections 6 and 8, JJlock IX., Tararua, in Mauricevillc district, and also stating that at the request of the selectors of sections -1, 6, 7 and 8, the Minister of Lands has been recommended to approve of the thirds from these sections being paid to the Eketahuna Road Board, but that if the selectors now desired their thirds to be paid to tho Manriceville Road Board, to meet special rates for proposed loan to form the Mangatainoka Valley lload, they must send in a written request to have the I recommendations rescinded.
From Mr J, Rutlierfiird, requesting tho Board to raise a loan to complete the formation on Dagg's Road. —Consideration of this letter was held over. From Jtr ('. B. Pliar.izyn, agreeing to exchange land to allow of deviation in road lino crossing his property at Dreyerton. From settlers on liowens-road, requesting that the lower end of the road be metalled.-As no funds are | in hand for tho road at present, the Board was unable to agree to tho request-
From tho Engineer, staling that after carefully considering all tho circumstance in connection with Messrs Burke and Robinson's request for compensation for loss on their contract-It appears that tho contractors were unfortunate, but this is the result of tho ordinary risks which all contractors should an-; ticipate in tendering for such work. Ho is. therefore ttnablo to recommend the Board to make any further payment. The Engineer's report was also unfavourable to Messrs Jacobson and Brodersen's claim.
It was resolved lo apply foi the extra 10 per cent. 011 loan for Johnston's Road, It \m nlso resolved to hold a special meeting to confirm tlw special order striking special rate to meet iiitorest 011 loan for Bowen's Road. Messrs Heckler and Rummer wore appointed to arrange fov cleaving tko slips on the Jlangamahoe Road, and also to get patching done o\i Dryw'a Ilock R6ad,tho Cliaji'man to arrange for similar work at the limestone hill. Accounts amounting to £1421.8s 6d were passed for payment find the meeting adjourned.
