MIDLAND V. EXCELSIORS,

Tho first Championship Match of the recently-formed Thursday Cricket Association, was played ou the Oval, yesterday, between the above Clubs; resulting in a win for the Midlands, by 'l4 runs. Tbe Excelsiors made 50; J. Wickeus, with 11, being the highest; and tho Midlands responded with 91; Broad (35), and L. Richards (24), playing splendid innings. Total .94 The Excelsior second were defeated at Carterton yesterday, by 24 runs, in their match with the local Tradesmen. The Mastorton boys did remarkably well for their first match; Olarko showing fine form with the bat, and Apperley with the ball. Next Thursday the fixtures are Carterton ti, Fire Brigado; and Excelsior first i),'second, both' matches to be played at Masterton.
