DISGRACEFUL TREACHERY.
SOLDIERS BUTCHERED. Thursday Island, November 27. News by the mail states the twenty-five Manilla soldiers recentl deserted from the military station. A Spanish gunboat was sent afte them, and found them in Britis North Borneo, and after decoyin them on to the beach ruthlessly firei into them. Of those that were left, man were slaughtered in the water. An account of the affairconcludes —" Thus ended an expedition vrhicl for disgraceful treachery and butcli ery, it would be difficult to find parallel in contemporary history."
