BROWN, ■■■■-. Reluming Officer. MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE BURGESSES OF MAS; TEUTON. «■ ADIESANDGENTLEMEN,-In .'sblicitini; your votes at tho coming eleetipn, 1 havo no scheme of reserving mountain tops ; making Ngamatawa roads; or other imir-brnine'd, or expensive scheme to lay before yon, but I rely on 1 lny past services, and my ability to serve you intlie future,, for. your support. I havb been Chairman, of tho Works Committee (with tho exception of short intervals) for' the last ten years, and I claim that tho 'works have been well and economically carried out, and that your streets arc generally in good order. ' I.have also been Chairman of the Gas .and Works Commit too for the past'year. The works have an efficient. Manager, and are now in such a fair way to success as they have never been before. As to the Waipoua i the Council offered to subsidise whatever.' the property-owners collected by £ for £.. If they arc in earnest about it I will still support that proposal. I see that Mr Homblow runs a-tilt against the Borough Council, and accuses me of (vant of financial ability. It is true that ho has a peculiar genius for linanco that I do not pretend to understand, but I will let you decido by your votes which is the safest aud cheerfully accept the rosult. His assertion that the Borough finances " never were in a worse state" is pure bunkum. The overdraft is nearly £3OO lower than it was last year, and I would point out that it is no easy matter to keep tho.overdraftdown. There are street repairs, lighting, Charitable Aid "an ever-increasing charge," lire-saving, aud many other charges, besides a time-serving Councillor, oagcr to propose expenditure to get into favour with tho ratepayers in order to secure . votes. If elected I will endeavour to keep expenditure within bounds, so as to avoid an increase of rates. " Efficiency with Economy" is my programme— Your Obedient Servant, GEORGE HERON.
