MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The Treasurer reported a credit balance at date, of £3514s Bd. SCHOOL ATTEXDAX'CE.
Tho Secretary of the Town Lands Trustees wrote, stating that the Trust had granted i'o to be expended in attendance prizes. It was decided to refer the matter of arranging how thesumbeexpended to a sub-Committee consisting of Messrs Feist, Easthope and Danioll, aud that the Town Lands Trustees be thanked for their grant on the motion of Messrs Beard and East--I#. 1 SCHOOL EKt'KSIfIXS,
A circular from the Railway Department was received with reference to the new scale of special fares to school excursions. Mr \V. H. Jackson said in the event of another general school excursion be would suggest that it take place at an early date, before tho weather becomes oppressively Lot. Mr Pragnell pointed out that no provision was made in the circular for parents and guardians accompanying children. Ho thought this an oversight, and would move tlmt tho Department bo asked to grant the same privileges to parents as granted at last year's excursion, The matter was left in the hands of Mr W. 11. Jacksou to communicate with tho Traffic Manager, with the object of holding an excursion. It was also decided that the fixing of the date be left with the Chairman and Mr Jackson.
SCHOOL REims. The Head Master reported 593 otifroi on the roll with an average fttOTulaiioe of 488, being a percentage of 82. Miss Keeling reported 93 scholars on the roll with an average attendance of 74, The report also suggested the desirability of the Committee granting permission for the children to ho taken on a holiday excursion into the country on some Friday in December.—The reports were adopted. .HVOI'NTS.

Ill' Daniell moved that a committee be empowered to lovol and tar tho playground at tlio school daring the holidays, the expenditure not to exceed £lO. The motion was carried, Messrs Feist, Daniell and Hornblow. being appointed to look after the work. Miss Keeling's application to take "'tho children under her charge into the country was granted. Mr Beard moved that the Mastertoil Town Lands Trustees bo respectfi(lM requested to give effect to the Technical Education, sent in to the Trustees some time ago. Mr liastliopc seconded the motion. Mr Daniell said, as a member of .tlio Town Lands Trust lie would like to explain that the matter had not been lost sight of, but as it was a most important question it had been deferred from meeting to meeting to obtain the attendance of Mr W. Lowos, their Chairman, whose illhealth bad prevented his attendance at the Town Lands Trust meetings. As a matter of courtesy to their Gljjpian the report had in a raeasumieen allowed to drop. >. Mr Beard said there was a feeling that the question of Technical Education had been allowed to drop. Mr Daniell said the Trustees wore afraid of committing themselves to p. possibly unknown expenditure. Mr Hornblow thought that tho Trustees, while sympathising with the object, would not bo prepared to expend £2OO, as asked. MMeard thought a deputation fllioumwait on the Trust, jlr Pragnell said his private opinion was, that there was very little chance of anything being done in the matter of Technical Education, until tho Toivn Hall question was settled, jlr Beard's motion was put and carried. Jilr % G. Beard was appointed .■visiting member, and the meeting ' closed.
