PRESENTATION.
3 TESTIMONIAL TO Mil. J. BAGGE. At tho conclusion of tho usual , monthly meeting last night (says | the Marlon Mercury of Novomberßih) , of Lodgo Ruapehu, E.C., No 2137, tho Lodge was thiown open to tho ' i public for the purpose of making a ] presentation to Mr J. Bagge, late | Postmaster at Mustorlou, and who ' i has recently taken up his residence ' in Marlon. The duty of making the presentation devolved on tiro. J, J. McDonald, W.M. of tho Ruapehu 1 Lodge, and in a happy little speech ■ ho conveyed lo the large number present tho pleasure conferred on having boon asked to perform such a 1 pleasant task. He then, on behalf of the eighty signatories to the testi- ' moninl, begged Mr liagge to accept ' the same, together with a purso of ' sovereigns, at tho same time hoping that the recipient and his family | would long enjoy health, happiness, and prosperity in their new home. The address, which was handsomely illuminated and framed, road as follows:—To.loiix Haook, Esqimbe.— > Dear Sir—We, the undersigned resi- • dents of Masterton and district, f desire on your retirement from the , official position held by you during , the past 19 years, to express otirnpl pieciation of your public services , and our regret atyeiirretireincutand , removal from ainongstus, Atthesamo f time weaskyoutoacceptthis address, I with the accompanying purso, as an , assurance of our appreciation of ■ your services as Postmaster; of your I many social virtues, ami our best ; wishes for the future happiness and ' prosperity of yourself and family." • The presentation having been made ■ amidst applause, Mr JJagge duly ; responded, stating that ho was very grateful, as a stranger, for the kindly i manner in which lie had been re- ' ceived, and also for the handsome ■ way in which the presentation had boon made. Had ho been in Masteri ton, he might have referred to his residence there, and could • therefore have told the pcoplo , there, how much he appreciated their kindnessin presenting him with such a flattering testimonial, As it was they must accept his heartfelt thanks, and believe that he would over treasure it as an indication that bo had carried out- his duties satisfactorily. After referring to his thirty-four years' service in the Government employ, and the many friends lie had made, Mr JJagge concluded by thanking those present for the very kind manner in which ho had beon received amongst them, and tho proceedings terminated.
