Tin; Mayoral coutust lies between Mi 1 Heron and Mr Jlornblow, and will probably result in a victory fur [lie former. Mr Heron lias done some good work in Masterton, and even we, who have regarded him as unprogressive, admit that lie faced the gasdillicultyandconquereditasfaras it eould be overcome. But we would like, before his municipal career closes, to see his name associated with some great work of public utility, by which ho might for all time be remembered as a benefactor to Masterton. If he faced the water and drainage problem with the same determination which he applied to the gas works difficulty Mr Heron would bo a model Mayor. Even that faculty of caution which is so pronounced a trait in his character would be simply invaluable in carrying out ajniblic woik of magnitude. As for Mr Hornblow we look I in vain for any encouraging sign in | liis municipal record. His greatest | achievement, seems to have been the erection of a lamp post, There are works of some but not of the first importance in the Jiorough, which an ambitious Councillor of his calibre might well undertake.
