Wairarapa Daily Times. [Established 1874.] SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1895. ROYAL BIRTHDAYS.

" God bless the Prince of Wales" is the prevailing sentiment 10-iky, but still more dominant is the still nobler sentiment "God bless one noble solves" The Prince of Wales' Birthday does not suit us as it public holiday anil so weallor it. Uf course Government departments and statu-! lory instilulions like banks cannot change a Royal Birthday at their ov-u discretion, but the public can and does do Ibis, mid so wliilo some few persons take holiday to-day, the public generally disport, themselves jon November llth, This is mi obvious embarrassment and we nlmost wish that the loyalty of mayors mid other ollieials was a little more pronounced so that the anniversary could be celebrated at one duo date instead of two. However, there is a kindly feeling towards the Prince, even on. the part.of those who shtihTe bis birthday about,-for they know that while it pleases them it does not hurt hini. H.R.H., the genial Albert Ndwiinl, is for a.grandfather, a comparatively young man, having only attained bis fifty-fourth year. Ho was married in the year '63 and celebrated his silver wedding in the year 'BS, and three years ago one of bis daughters" the Duchess of Fife" bad the supremo pleasure of presenting him with ut grandchild The Prince, however, has lived bis life, and it is scarcely anticipated that ho will ever attain ut great age like Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen. Everybody wishes hima longlife, for I though some superficial faults are] apparent in him, on great occasions j ho always seems to be equal to any responsibilities that devolve upon him. He is, too.adomocratic Prince, a man who loves the people and who is loved by them.
