The Masterton Park Oval will present a lively .ippenranco on Monday, when two interesting matches will be played. Tho Midlands meet the Fire Diigade, and the local Excelsiors play their namesakes from Wellington. The present parched-up state of the cricket pitches on tho Oval is extremely detrimental to cricket, hut cocoa-nut matting would mako a vast difference, and it is to be hoped die Clubs interested will make the necessary outlay at once, for the good of the game. The following is the team selected to do battle for tho JUL Fire Brigade on Monday next:--Jackson, Grieson, Fitzsimmons, Harland, qH Braggins, E, Ewingtori, Edwards, W Stinson, C. Bentley, Prentice, and J. Bentley; emerg., 11. Ewington and R. Findlay. A meeting of dologates of tho various Thursday Clubs will beheld next Thursday evening. It is to bo hoped a full attendance will be prosent, and arrangements made for a series of champioiisnip matches during the summer. A " rep " match between Pahiatua ami Wairarapa has been arranged to be played at Pahiatua on November oOth, and a return at Groytown after the New Year. Greylownseniorsplay the Wellington Phoenix team on Monday noxfc at Greytown, and, as is usual between these teams, a very pleasant and interesting game should roßult, Greytown will be represented as follows :-W. Judd, 11. and T. Hawke, Wylie, Kowse, Knell, Burch, Rutherford, Stewart, Beard and * another. South Australian cricketers are making much fuss over a new bowler—a long, gaunt ,. with big feet, named Button (botl'Aui his feet are mimed Hutton), whbsjMp took five wickets for 19, including the two Jarvises, in his first match, Since the Sydney cricket soason began, M'Kibbin has shown fino bowling form. Last Saturday, ho and Newcll sent that strong batting team, Central Cumberland, to iho right-about for 47 runs. M'Kibbin got 4 for 19, Nowoll 4 for 25. Mac keuzie, the Paddington (Sydney) batsman, increased his score to 213, run out, last Saturday. Darling, tho South Australian , left-hander, is anxious to go to England with the '96 team. Like Jarvis and Syd Gregory, he runs a * cricket business, and buying stock personally in London, saves much money. Jack Lyons made 42, not out, against Hindmarsh, Oct, 19. George Giffen, on tho same day, made 18, Darling 41.
