RUMOURS OF ANNEXATION BY FRANCE. Sydney, November 5. The Revs, Patoti and Watt have arrived from the' Now Hebrides, The former says there are rumours amongst I lie French residents that the islands of tho group will bo annexed by France before the end of (lie year, and the French colonisation and trading companies are making strong olfortstoexlend their commercial relations which lo his mind points to an attempt by the local Frenchmen to have the islands under tho French Hag. lie says it is of immense importance that the islands should remain under tho British Hag as they complete tho chain of ISritish possessions in the Australasian waters. If Franco annexes the group it will break the chain and secure harbours which would beof the utmost importance in the event of an international difficulty. MrWattviews the matter in a similar light.
