Mr Kelley, a resident of Ballarat, is the inventor of a new torpedo, which ho claims may be launched as a projectile through air or under water, and cannot bo interfered with by the ship's protecting nets. Mrs Kilpatrick has obtained a verdict for £790 against Huddart, Parker and Co., for the loss of her husband, an engineer, who was drowned by the foundering of the Alort. At the previous trial sho was awarded £6OO, but the defendants appealed, with the result mentioned. Received November 1, 10p.m. Memoukne, November 1, A strike has occurred at the Korumburra Mine ovor a question of slack, and 330 men are out. Beceiccd November 3, 1 a.m. Newcastle, Novembor 1. The now Lambton Colliery is closing down iudefinifcely, owing to the slackness of trade. Ninety men will bo thrown out of work.
