* From Our Own Correspondent. r i Fehhkrston, Monday. Shortly after ono o'clock on Saturday afternoon Mr Pilraer's bouse near Cross' Creek, was totally destroyed by fire, and very little of anything was saved. Particulars aro not yet to hand as to insurances and origin of tho lire. The Greytowu Band played in tho Cricket Reserve yesterday to a fair , audience. There would have been a larger ono only it was understood that tho Baud would perform on the Domain, hence a lot repaired to that spot in anticipation, Mr and Mrs Card, of the Empire Hotel,celebrated their silver wedding on Friday evening, when thore was a number of friends present to offer their congratulations. If there was 'jfte, therp was over a hundred letters "and telegrams, offering congratulav tions; conspicuous were those of the Hon. Mr Bonar, and tho Hon, Mr Kerr, and Messrs McKenzie, Guinness, O'Regan, and many other West Coast friends, who would have been up but for Parliamentary duties which needed their presence, Danciug and singing was kept up until tho small hours of the morning, a most enjoyable time having beer spent by all.
