lish, the rivers of the district leem with an almost inexhaustible supply, but this is reserved for sporting pm poses. It is right to a very large extent that our streams should be conserved for the sportsman, because they havo been stocked with fish at his expense and for his amusement, but the time must come when it will be necessary to consider whether ! some reserve should not be made for marketing rather than sporting pur- ■ poses. It is possible that a shoot of water like the Wairarapa Lake might be set aside as a suitable reserve in which to grow a lish food supply for the people. In the Middle Island, we undeistand that lish aro netted in certain places for tho public market, and those who cannot otherwise obtain a supply of fresh fish aro enabled to purchase it at a reasonable rate. In this distriot we should be glad to see some facilities given for establishing a fresh lish market. Wo bclieyo the Wellington Acclimatisation Society could, if it thought proper to do so, facilitate such an enterprise. We would like to-see trout on the breakfast tablo of every cottage in tho district, and really, there is.no insuperable difficulty in bringing tho fish to the table. Some day the necessary arrangements will be made, and even now they might be effected if the people themselves made up their minds to get.a regular supply of fresh lish,
