TIIIiS Company Ims been formed (or tlx purpose of acquiring the sole patent rights for New Zealand of the ''Collier Two-speed (ieav'' for Cycles, and to import or iiiauulactuic Cycles lilted '.villi the gear, It is generally admitted b-- liders of the ordinary machine that its greatest defect, as a means of locomotion, is the difficult; of iiKHiutiiiij hills and riding against the wind, or on bad roads. This is caused by the single gearing. Tile object of a two speed gear is to lessen the amount of labour necessary to propel the cycle up hills and against head winds, or on bad roads, and at the same time to allow a higher speed than usual to lie attained ou level loads. llilUlinibing robs cycling of much of its pleasure, nr,d it i? to renvive this barrier tha', the " Collier Two. Speed (rif.r" lias been desired. It is simple in construction, strong, and is limit as part ..f the machine, in inn, all that is y is to iiii.ie a knoii, fitted at t'uetop of the cycling frame, aid the gout-g is changed while riding at any sp'.:ci Thus, if a hill is to iie climbed, the liiioh is lowsred, and immediately the machine kcomas much easier t« propel. On reaching the summit, liy raising the knob the higher gear comes into play, and increased spc'-d is obtained. The hard work hitherto necessary to propel a high-geared machine on give and take roads lias debarred many people from indulging in the pleasure of cycling, and it is confidently anticipated that the "Two- k pced Gear" will add greatly to the popularity of the snort. The "Collier Two-Speed Gear" is absolutely now as a simple mechanical motion, and in this lies one great security to investors. It has been put to every practical test, and the highest testimonials have lieen received Erotn the leading English and Colonial riders and engineers. Orders for the " Collier Two-Speed" have already bsea received from the leading cycle-makers in Christchurch. Auckland, Duuedin, Napier, Ac., and it has created the greatest interest amongst cyclists throughout the Colony. The immense strides cycling is making throughout the world, not only as a sport, but as a means of locomotion in the business affairs of life, must be apparent to every observer. In New Zealand it is in its infancy, and the favourable climate (making it practical to cycle almost lhe whole year round) points to its being much more universally used than in less favoured countries. It is estimated by experts that there were *2500 bicycles sold last year in New Zealand, and in a very tew years it would not bo surprising to see these figures raised to 5000. Considering the immense advantages ol the "Collier Two-Speed Gear" over the single peed cycle, it is calculated that at least iOO machines would be sold the lirst lull season, and it is confidently expected that two-thirds of the cycles purchased throughout the Colony, will bo fitted with this gear. A first-class cycle, fitted with the Collier Two-Speed Hear, sells for £22105, and tnis at a net profit of .CIS 8s per cycle, provides for a dividend of 25 per cent., and leaves n surplus of £BOO. This estimate does not include any profit by way of interest on deferred payment business, or for sales of the gear to other makers, which, in itself, should represent a substantial profit, and the Directors have every reason to believe that this estimate will be considerably exceeded. Tliey see iu simple invention as great a revolution in cycling, iis was caused by the advent of the now universally adopted Pneumatic Tyre, the company owning which paid, in 18BH, a dividend of 200 per cent., ami placed £IOO,OOO to the reserve fund. It is intended to establish the head office of the Company in Wellington, as being the most central print to work the Colony from. No delay will tako place iu the Company doing business, as the gears are being made in large quantities in linidand. The ' Collier Two-Speed Gear" Company, Manchester, arc prepared to supply thnm 'nimediately, The purchase price fixed by the Vendor is £550 cash, £SOO in 12 months, 1000 fully paid-up shares, and a royalty of 10s per gear; but the vendor is willing to forego receipt of any royalty on the first (100 gears. The Vendor lias made provision for the payment of all expenses of forming and tloating the Company up to the first allotment of shares, Where no allotment is made the application money will be returned in full, and where the number of shares allotted is less than the number applied for, the surplus will be appropriated on account of the allotment money.
