THE VICTORIAN AGENTGENERALSHIP.
Melbourne, October 18. The j4ye says the Government is • i considering the appointment of an expert man in businesn to represent the Colony in London, in the capacity of Agent-General. It adds that tlio Government is of opinion that the present system of Agent-Generalship is utterly inadequate for the proper development of commercial interests in the Colony. Mr Gillies' term has yet some < time to run, but it is highly able that when ho leaves the there will be a complete change of. the staff, and the Department established on lines of practical commercial utility. Irrespective of this reorganisation, the Cabinet consider it undesirable to lose timo in waiting for the course of events, and is discussing tlio ap- 'r pointment of somo ono to take up the functions of Commercial Agont, independent of the Agent-General.
