Mills. Esq, (B. W Mills* Co., Ltd.) N. Erid, Esq., (vV. and 0. Turnbull & Co.) J. V. Maxwbll, Esq,, M. Inst. O.E. W. L, Meek, Esq., (Storer, Meek, & Co, E Collikh, Esq. Bankers: Bank of Australasia. Solicitors ■. Mcs;rs Mcobkuoiw. & Hadfield. Auditors: Messrs Baduav & Biss. Broker for Wairurapa: MrD. S. PAi'U'oitTii. THIS Company lias been formed for the purpose of acquiring the sole patent rights for Now Zealand of the "Collier Two-speed dear" for Cycles, and to import or manufacture Cycles lilted with the gear, It is generally admitted by riders of the ordinary machine that its greatest defect, as a means of locomotion, is the difficulty of mounting hills and riding against the wind, or on bad roads. This i 6 caused by the single gearing. The object of a two speed gear is to lessen the amount of labour necessary to propel the cycle tip bills and against head winds, or on bad roads, and at the samo time to allow a higher speed than usual to be attained on level roads, Hill-climbing robs cycling of much of its pleasure, and it is to remove this barrier thr.', the " Collier TwoSpeed Gear" has been designed. It is simple in construction, strong, and is built as part i f the machine. In use, all that is necessary i.s to raise a knob, fitted at the top of the cycling frame, a-.d the genrirg is changed while riding at any speed. Thus, if a hill is to be climbed, the knob is lowsrcd, and immediately the machine becomes much easier to propel. On reaching the summit, by raising the knob the higher gear comes into play, and increased speed is obtained. The hard work hitherto necessary to propel a high-geared machine on give and tako roads has debarred many pcoplo from indulging in the pleasure of cycling, and it is .confidently atitiovpatcd that the'' Two-' [iced Gear" will add greatly to the popularity ot the sport. The" Collier Two->'pced Gear" is absolutely new as a simple mechanical motion, and in this lies one great security to investors, It has been put to every practical test, and the highest testimonials have been received from the leading English a:,d Colonial riders and engineers. Orders for the "(Jollier Two-Hpced" have already bean received from the loading cycle-makers in Christohurch, Auckland, Dunedin, Napier, Ac, and it has created tlto greatest interest amongst cyclists throughout the Colony. The immense strides cycling is making throughout the world, not only as a sport, but as a means of locomotion in the business affairs of life, must be apparent to every observer. In New Zealand it is in its infancy, and the favourable climate (making it practical to cycle almost the whole year round) points to its being much mora universally used than in less favoured countries, It is estimated by experts that there were 2500 bicycles sold last year in New Zealand, and in a very few years it would not bo surprising to see these figures raised to 5000. Considering the immense advantages of the "Collier Two-Speed Gear" over tho single speed cycle, it is calculated that at least COO machines would be sold the first full season, and it is confidently expected that two-thirds of the cycles purchased throughout the Colony, will bo fitted with this pear. A first-class cycle, fitted with the Collier Two-Speed Clear, sells for £22105, and ttiis at a net profit of £3 8s per cycle, provides for a dividend of 25 per cent., and leaves a surplus of £BOO. This estimate does not include any profit by way of interest on deferred payment busineia, or for sales of the gear to other makers, which, in itself, should represent a substantial profit, and tho Directors have avery reason to believe that this estimate will be considerably exceeded, They see in this simplo invention as great a revolution in cycling, as was caused by the adveut ot the now univertally adopted Pneumatic Tyre, the company owning which paid, in 1883, a dividend of 200 per cent., and placed £IOO,OOO to the reserve fund. It is intended to establish the head oflicc of the Company in Wellington, as being tho most central pcint to work the Colony from, No delay will take place in the Company doing business, as the gears are being made in largo quantities in Kncland. Tho ' ■ Collier Two-Speed Gear" Company, Manchester, are prepared to supply them immediately. The purchase price fixed by the Vendor is £550 cash, £SOO in 12 months, 1000 fully paid-up shares, and a royalty of 10s per gear; hut tho vender is willing to forego receipt of any royalty on the first liOOgears. The Vendor has made provision for the payment of all expenses of forming and floating the Company up to tho first allotment of shares. Where no allotment is made the application money will be returned in full, and where tho number of shares allotted is less than tho number applied for, the surplus will be appropriated on account ot tho allotment money.
