Solicitors: Messrs Moobebodsk & Hadfield, Auditors : Messrs Bamiam & Bibs. Broker for Wairarapu: MrD. S. P.U'wortu. THIS Company has been formed for the purpose of acquiring the solo patent rights for New Zealand of the "Collier Two-speed Gear" for Cycles, and to import or manufacture Cycles fitted with tho gear. It is generally admitted by riders of the ordinary machine that its greatest defect, as a means of locomotion, is the difficulty of mounting hills and riding against the wind, or on bad ronde. This is caused by the I s 1 :s S I The object of a two-speed gear is to lessen the amount of labour necessary to propel tho cycle up bills and against head winds, or on bad roads, and at the same time to allow a higher speed than usual to ho attained on level roads. Hill-climbing robs cycling oi much oi its pleasure, and it is to remove this barrier that the " Collier TwoSpeed Gear" has been designed. It is simple in construction, strong, and is built as pant of the machine. In use, all that is necessary is to raise a knob, fitted at the top of the cycling frame, ar.d the gearing is changed while riding at any speed. Thus, if a hill is to be climbed, the knob is lowered, and immediately tho machine becomes much easier to propel. On reaching tho summit, by raisiug the knob the higher gear comes iuto play, and increased speed is obtained. • The hard work hitherto necessary to propola high-geared machine on give and take roads has debarred many people from indulging in the pleasure of cycling, and it is confidently anticipated that the "Two-Speed Gear" will add greatly to the popularity of the snort. The "Collier Two-Speed Gear" is absolutely new as a simple mechanical motion, and in this lies one great security to investors. It has been put to every practi cal test, and the hiijhcst testimonials have been received from the leading English and Colonial riders and engineers. Orders for the "Collier Two-Speed" have already been received from the leading cycle-makers in Christchurch, Auckland, Dunedin, Napier, &e., and it lias created the greatest interest amongst cyclists throughout the Colony. The immense strides cycling is making throughout the world, not only as a sport, but as a means of locomotion in the business affairs of life, must he apparent to every observer. In New Zealand it is in its infancy, and the favourable climate (making it practical to cycle almost the whole year round) points to its being much moro universally used than in less favoured countries. It is estimated by experts that there wero 2500 bicycles sold last year in New Zealand, and in a very few years it would not be surprising to see these figures raised to 5000. Considering the immense advantages of the "Collier Two-Speed Gear" over tho single speed cycle, it is cilculated that at least machines would be sold the first full season, and it is confidently expected that two-thirds of the cycles purchased throughout tho Colony, will bo fitted with this eear. A first-class cycle, fitted with the Collier Two-Speed Rear, sells for £22105, and tnis at a net profit of £3 8s per cycle, provides for a dividend of 25 per cent,, and leaves a surplus of £BOO. This estimate docs not include any profit by way of interest on deferred payment business, or for sales of the gear to other makers, which, in itself, should represent a substantial profit, and tho Directors have every reason to believe that this estimate will be considerably exceeded, They sec in this simple invention as great a revolution in cycling, as was caused by the advent of the now univertnlly adopted Pneumatic Tyre, the company owning which paid, in 1893, a dividend of 200 per cent,, and placed £IOO,OOO to the reserve fund. It is intended to establish the head ollicc of the Company in Wellington, as being the most central point to work the Colony from. No delay will take place in the Company doing business, as the gears are being made in large quantities in England. The ' ■ Collier Two-Speed Gear" Company, Manchester, are prepared to supply them immediately. The purchase price fixed by the Vendor is £550 cash, £SOO in 12 months, 1000 fully paid-up shares, and a royalty of 10s per gear; but tho vendor is willing to forego receipt of any royalty on tho first (500 gears. The Vendor has made provision for the payment of all expenses of forming and fating the Company up to the first allotment of shares, Where no allotment is made the application money will be returned in full, and where the number of shares allotted is less than the number applied for, the surplus will be appropriated on account of the allotment money. Any excess will be re turned to the applicants. Applications for sham will he received Uj Ma. D, S. PArwonw,/rom whom copies of (lie prospctim may be ohlaiiml.
