SUDDEN DEATH OF MR. D. HARTLEY.
Mr D. Hartley, a well-known figure about tie Masterton District, waß found dead in his bed, yesterday, having apparently passed away very quietly hut with startling suddenness. It appears Mr Hartley, who seemed iu excellent, health, attended the Carterton Horse Parade on Saturday, and returned to his i lodgings, at Mr Lumsden's, Dixonstreet, in tho evening, going out again after tea and returning about 11 o'clock. He called out," Is everybody in?" and receiving a reply, went to his j-ooni, The next day being wet, Mr Hartley was not called. Mr Lumsden remarking to his wife, "that it would not harm liimto lie in," About eleven o'clock, tho ocoupantsof the IIOU6O thought, they beard Mr Hartley moving but as he had not appeared at 2 o'clock, Mr Lumsden decided to call iiim. Receiving no reply to his knock at the bedroom door, Mr Lumsden went in and found the deceased lying with his face on his hand in a perfectly natural manner, and until lie touched him did not realise that Hartley was dead. On making the discovery the polico were at once communicated with, and an inquest was arranged to bo held this morning.
