Hornblow, liessoy, Yates, Jlutrie, Wagg, «ist, Chamborlain and W. Pony. Dr Hessey made the usual declaration aftor his re-election, Minimis. Tho minutes of tho last meeting wore read and confirmed, ntmoEss ROLL. J. lorns applied to liavo his name inserted on the Burgess Roll. The request was granted, the pound. 9 Tho Poundkeeper wrote giving an explanation of the charge mado in connection with tho impounding of ' Mrs Parker's cow. The Council considered tho explanation satisfactory. LEAVK OK ABSENCE. Cr Simms wroto apologising for absence, SIOXROARDS. Messrs Honnslow and Hoar, and Mr W. Pragnell wrote asking per- ' mission to erect signboards.—Permission was granted ou the usual coalitions, W THH GAS TASK, From Messrs Peuty and Forde, ' enclosing a letter from Messrs Norbury and Trevor, applying for the final payment ou their contract. Tho Mayor said the Engineer wished to examine the bottom of the tank before giving a final certificate. The matter might be left over for a day or two, Crs Hornblow and Hessey thoughttho amount, if due, should be paid. Cr Feist thought it would be improper to pay out in full before they were satisfied the work had been properly done. Cr Hessey said if anything was wrong it should havo been discovered before the time for payment had expired. The matter was then allowed to drop. RETORT. Tho report of the Works and Finance Committee was read and adopted. PRIVATE STREETS. Wvas resolved that the property owners of Kirton-streetand Kealonstreet, be notified that the Council require the same to be formed. BOROUGH ROADS. Ou the motion of Cr Yates the Council decided to throw open the West Bush Road extension to the Waingawa, Cr Mutrie said several complaints had been made to him with regaid to tho Gladstone Road, He thought a good portion of it should bo metalled, Cr Hessey said it.woukl cost about £4O to metal ten chains of the road. The Road Board was also interested | in the road, and he had informed one | of those who bad complained, that | the Council could only spend £1 for I £1 with the Board. Cr Hessey was appointed to wait; on the Mastertnn Read Board at next ■ meeting with reference to this mat- i \ ter. REPAIRS. Cr Feist drew attention to the fact tlrtkjic roof of tho Council Chamber wirWeaking. The mattor was left with the' Clerk with power to have the roof repaired, Cr Hessey said it was about time the Borough offices were papered. LOITERING. I Cr Feist said ho wished to draw attention to a By-law dealing with loitering on the footpaths. He thought tho attention of the police should bo directed to this matter. Crowds congregated at various corners and caused an obstruction, Cr Hessey said he was glad the matter had been brought up. Some months ago the police were written to and had simply ignored them. Tho Mayor said there was no doubt that the loitering was a nuisauce, "• especially at the Post Office corner. Cr Feist moved that the attention of the police be called to this nuisance, and the motion was carried, OBSTKHCTISG THE FOOTPATH. Cr Wagg drew attention to the partial obstruction of the footpath, byihe scaffolding in front of Messrs aftnitMCo'a. Ur Hessey said the present batten at an awkward angle was dangerous. He did not wish to be officious, but if any accident happened the Council would be responsible, It was resolved to ask tho contractors to alter tho scaffold. The Council then adjourned on the motion of Cr Yates.
