SEVEN WOMEN KILLED, Recehei September 17,7.80 p.m. .. * London, September 16^ The steamor lona, from LeithW London, caught fire, and burned for two hours. The passengers wero asleep at the time, and whon they were roused a panic ensued.
Many were injured in the rush for boats.
Seven ladies perished, including a stewardess who was trying to rescue others,
Forty-eight men were rescued. The fire began in the ladies cabin. Jonas, a steward, states that the
roason the unfortunate women wero n burnod was that egress from the* cabin was closed, and they were therefore unable to force their way thorough tho flames.
