THE DROUGHT IN AUSTRALIA.
* RISE IN THE PRICE OP PRODUCE. Received September 11, 9.20 p.m. Sydney, September 11. Tho Government astronomer, Jfr H. C. Russell, is of opinion that, the Colony has entered on a protracted and disastrous period of drought, caused by the continued prevalent equatorial winds driving away rain Other exports concur that it is not improbable that this is the commoncment of a cycle of dry years. The prices of meat and produce are rapidly advancing in the country districts. At Parramatta the price of beef has been raised Id per lb, and mutton h\ per lb. Milk has advanced Id per quart, and feed is proportionately dear. Received, September 11, 10p.m. Adelaide, September 11. Tho crops in the northern districts are suffering severely from drought, and will, it is feared, be ruined unless rain falls soon, Received, September 12,1 a.m. Sydney, Septomber 11, A great rise has taken place in tho price of cattle in the Bathurst district owing to tho drought. Cattle which a few (lays ago would not have realised £3 per head sold at £B. RAIN EXPECTED. Received September 12, 11.15 a.m. Sydney, September 12. An atniosphoric disturbance has developed over the Great Australian Bight, which both the Goverment Astronomer and Mr Wragge sfate has greatly improved the prospects of the forecast, Rain will probably fall generally in a fow days,
