One of tho most successful and sociable affairs evor held in Grey, town, was that of tho United Foot, ball Club's Ball, in tho Palace Hall, last evening. About 200peoplo were on tho floor spaco, while the galleries were filled with onlookers, The ball was given in honour of thechampionsbip of the district for the year being .attained by tho local team, and tho organisers and workers deserve every credit for tho way tho affair was carried out, and tho large attendant speaks volumes for the popularity of football generally, and thewirfltrs of the Bannerin particular, Visnors wero present from all parts of the district, and ono and all were per* fectly satisfied with the enjoyable time spent. Music was supplied by Messrs Kearsley, Varnham,Maguhu and Shultz,

During the evening presentations were made to the victorious Olub of tlm Challenge Banner, to be held until won by another team, and a beautiful silver'cup, presented by ,Mr 0, Rogers, Mr J,' Heagorty,

Mayor, in the onforod ahsenco of the Resident, Mr W, 0. Buchanan, acted for him, and Mr 0. Beard accepted tho trophies on behalf of tho Club, Cheers wore heartily given for all concerned, Dancing was kept up with groat spirit until-nftor threo o'clock tlnß r morning, tho crowd even thon being | loth to leave tho festive sccno. Everything passed off pleasantly, and reflects the greatest credit upon tho Secretary (Mr J. K. Hornblow) and the Committee of ladies and gontlemcn who kindly lent their yaluablo assistance.
