MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Mastertou Road Board was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs J. Stiiekoy (Chairman), Harris, and McKenzic. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Mr Donovan waited on the Board to complain that the Natives have placed an obstruction across the road through section 60, N,R.,8. IX., Kopnaranga, in the shape of slipbars.
Mr Donovan also drew attention to the fact that the river is encroaching on the road to his property and requested permission to widen the road, on the understanding that the Board will consider the question of further widening the road at a futuro date, It was decided to ask the Com-
missioner of Lands, whether there is any record of the road through section GO, N.R., and to advise Mr Donovan that the Board wishes to ascertain whether the road is a legal one, before taking action. Resolved to grant Mr Donovan permission to widen the road into the river.
The consideration of the question of Mr Jones' liability for ropairs to the bridge through, which his traction engine recently fell, was held ovor till next meeting. Leave of absence was granted to Mr H, Hilmes from the present and. next meeting.
Mr Htais was appointed to arrange with Mr A, Stewart re clearing the drain on McKenzie Roat).The Clerk was instructed to take steps to raise 'the Both'ainley's Road loan,
Mv Taifc waited on tho Board as a deputation from tho Mauriceville Road Board, with reference to the condition of tho South Mauriceville Road, within the Masterton Road District, and submitted an offer to nut on a double team at 10s per day, and to provide a man to spread the metal, it the Masterton Road Board would pay the dray hire, strip the pit, and load up tho gravel. Mr Tait fuiiher offered to do the latter work for 355.
It was decjded to accept Mr Tait's offer, and to charge the 35s to' contingencies in Sub-Division No, 1,
The Finance Committee's report, recommending the/ payment of accounts amounting to £260 3s' Bd, was adopted;
The Engineer's report was read and adopted. It-was decided that the culvert on the road to Mr W. J, Welch's property he attended to, and loyels taken for conveying the water from the toad to an outlet drain, on-the understanding that Mr Welch will, on having the levels pegged out, do the neoessavy draining, Mr Harris was appointed to ascertain whother the settlers interested are prepared to contribute towards the cost of the suggested deviation on the Upper Opakl RoadfatMr Hans Jensen's; .... | The aeeting then dosed,
