In the Council the Government representatives contended that the question of the land taxation exemptions was never submitted to . the country. i Mr Reid said the proposed reform of the Council would render it absolutely powerless, for the Government f would rather vote for tho entire 1 abolition, aud so leavo the Assembly ' i solely responsible for the wholo of | legislation. [ In the Assombly Mr Crick charged the Premier with allowing his col-
leagues for political purposes to yote ugainst the introduction of Eddy's Salary Increase Bill. Mr Reid retorted that it was a false and infamous statement. The Minister of Mines also hotly interrupted. The Speaker interposed and said that unless Ministers ceasod to interrupt and set an example to the House, and ceased'to defy him, he would leave tho House and resign. Mr Reid explained that he did not introduce Jlr Eddy's Bill at the Commissioner's own request. The Premier states that the now batch of Legislative Councillors would lmvo been improved by the inclusion of two or three Labor members, but against bis own desire he respected the antipathy of the Council to that element,
