11;/ Tdif/ivpli—Oin Curmpiimteiit. Wki.i.ixotox, Thursday
The Petitions Committco had the petitions for and against the Mastertou Town Hall, presented by Messrs Hogg and Buchanan, before them this morning.
The-statements of the Members for Masterton and the Wairarapa were amusingly contradictory, hut Masterton emerged from the light triumphant, and the Committco will take no action.
ATHLETICS AND SMOKING. Should athletes jmoke? Upinions nre considerably at variance on the subject, but the vcrd.ct of most modern scientists would lead to the conclusion that youth, while training, should abstain from smoking pipes, cigarettes, and strong tobacco. A mild cigar ou the 'rt'ticr hand may safely be iudulgtd in, aud the las:est novelty, FfosBsrd's Cavours, can lie recommended to ono and all. They are mild, fragrant, and in every respect suitable tor Ilia successful sportsman, as well for the one who is out of it. A packet of eight costs only one shilling and three-pence. Athletes go for them and be victorious. Auvt.
