A STEAMER BADLY DAMAGED,

Adelaide, August 13. The steamer Port Chalmers, '2667 tons, from London to' Sydney has arrived here in a battered condition.

The boats were swung qui rg&dy $o abandon the vessel, but by keep' r ing fche pumps continuously going and patching up the boles, she managed to keep afloat. She afterwards met tempestuous weather, and altogether those on board had a most distressing experience.
[ The steamer was only saved by the collision bulkheads remaining intact. She has a! large general cargo, including a big shipment of dyjiamite, which it is believed is bo 4 seriously damaged.
