Rcceiccd Awjust 3,11.40 a.m. Melbourne, August 3, The Mining Companies are making a determined stand against the payment of gold royalties claimed. When the Mining on Private Lands Bill was passed in ISS4, a term of eleven years was fixed in which all existing mining agreeMents should be terminated; this term ended on July 31st. As a protest against the royalties, and to test the question, the Madame Berry West Company stopped work yesterday undor legal advice, and the oilioial decision of tho Government has been asked, and is awaited with great interest, the majority of tho Companies being in open rebellion against further subsidising tho holders in tho shape of royalties.
