Last Sunday, Dean Hovell reminded tho Cathedral congregation that there still remainod a debt of £2OOO on the building, the interest on which was a material drag on tho muual income. He theroforo asked Jthem to make a special effort to raise £IOOO during tho week, This morning tho Cathedral was crowdod by a congregation anxious to hear tho result, though fow expected tho amount asked for, would be raised, When tho Dean appeared with tho large Cathedral alms-dish piled with cheques, notes, gold, silver and coppor, and announced that over £1,200 had been subscribed, tliere was visible emotion, and as the plato was doposited on the communion tnble tho whole congregation rose and sang tho Doxology with thrilling effect.
