FEATHERSTON NEWS.

From Our Own Cvrmpiulent, Wednesday. A meeting of creditors in the estate of J. T. Smith was held at the Court-house yesterday, the D.O.A. (Mr W. B. Chennells) presiding. Tliero wore only two creditors present, so tliero was no qnoi'iini. The bankrupt declined to he sworn, hut made an affirmation, and stated that his present position was incurred through taking a contract from the Itoad Board for £159, when it was fully worth £2lO to £220. The settling up of the estate was left in the hands of the D.0.A,, who undertook to see if the sections at Martinborough were worth doing anything with so us to pay the costs of the bankruptcy, for £39 16s had been paid away from tho assets by an order of the Court for £22 8s to W. ! liui-t, and an attachment order from J. Gaskin for wages, At last the right-of-way to tho Court-house is being proceeded with, the Engineer having beon up and laid off the work. The footpath is now being formed. There is a great outcry about the wretched state of the footpaths up towards tho Railway Station, and as the Post Office is tip there as well, both the Town Board and the Department should keep their paths something liko in order, and not

oblige people to wade through mud and water.
