CORRESPONDENCE.

TECHNICAL EDUCATION,

[TO THK EDITOR OF THE DAILT TIMES.] Sir—l hopo you will favour me with a little space in your valuable columns, to make a fow remarks re the proposed Technical School. Of courso it goes without saying that such a valuable institution is required in a growing and central town like ours, but the trouble is tho starting of same, getting a suitable building, and arranging classes, I would suggest, Sir, that if possible, tho front portion of. the Drill Hall bo obtained and partitioned off into Bay, four class-rooms, This could easily be done, and it would not intorfere with the dancing space, as these front rooms could bo used for anto-roomß. I think, Sir, it is usoloss for us to copy a centre liko Sydney with its branch schools in eTory suburb, and agricultural colleges, but wo might come a little nearer home, and take Auckland for a pattern to go by, They havo a limited number of subjects, and their past year has been an unqualified success, I would suggest that the classes be:—catpentry, joinery, woolclassing, blacksmithing, caligraphy book-keeping and shorthand, with a day class for cookery, Having been connected with a Technical School, I can say that pupils tako aptly to their work, and give every attention, I might mention, in conclusion, that in a colony like this where every acre gives a return, gardening might be included in tho syllabus, Thanking you in anticipation, I am etc., Technical,
