TINUI NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent. Wednesday.

Tinui, as well as other parts of New Zealand, lias been suffering lately from the cold, Our oldest settlers saj tliat last Friday's frost was the coldest they havo foltin this District. We have not had any snow yet, but judging by the cold, I should think there is somo vory close at hand. So far, this has been a remarkably dry winter with us, but I expect we will have to pay dear for it later on. I hear that the Tinui amateurs are getting up another entertainment to take place in about a month's time. It is to be hoped it will be a success, for certainly they are sticking to it well. The Foresters' Ball is to be held on Friday, llio 9th of August, and giving thorn line weather, I think they will have a very large attendance, They have not given a ball for two or three years past. Once upon a time was an annual affair. JPi, I hear that Mr McCandlish, of the

Whakataki Hotel, intends going in for largo improvements, such as making a racecourse, building a store, and other improvements, The roads up this way are in very good order for this time of the year, there has been agood deal of traffic too, but I suppose the dry weather has helped them considerably, School opened again last Monday with a very good attendance, and the " nippers" seemed delighted that their holidays were over. I suppose they got too much stick at home! Our new masterMr McKenme seems to be yery popular with the Tinuites.

The Rey. J. C. Andrew held divine service in the Tinui Town Hall last Sunday, but the attendance was not very large owing to the doubtful state of the weather.

The football match East Coast y Tinui to have been played at Whakataki last Saturday, fell through owing to some misunderstanding. Our new bootmaker seems to be

getting plenty of work, I hear h&intends canvassing the stations f<M orders, a very good line too, I shonfflT think by the number of hawkers and pedlars in Tinui at the present time,
