TAUERU NOTES.

♦ From Our Oien Corresjuimlent. This last week or two, wc have experienced tho finest and coldest weather known here for many years. Frosts have been the order of the day, particularly sharp ones occuring on Thursday and Saturday mornings. In many place?, on those days, the frost and ice lay on the ground the whole of the day. On Sunday again, there was a sharp one, but about 12 o'clock, the weather begin l to look black towards Masfertoii, ami heavy rain set in, A commencement lias been made to clear up the ground about the old sawmill. The buildings have been stripped of their iron, and things portable arc pretty well all off the ground. The engine lias been put on wheels and taken as far as the hotel, whence it is In he moved on Monday. The remaining slabs have been tired but the rain which has set in is likely to spoil the effect. A Quadrille Assembly has been formed, and intend holding weekly dances in the Hall. A start was made last Saturday, and was very successful. The music was supplied by the Taueru Orchestra, so that the music was good,goes without saying, It is to be hoped that the dances will continue successfully, as some kind of amusement is required by the young people during the winter months. If the Taueru is remarkable for nothing else, it certainly is for dearth of nniusoments.both openair and in-door,
