BANKING AFFAIRS.

London, July 10. Tbe city of Melbourne Bank is formally applying for liquidation. This is voluntary in order to protect its interests during tho discussion on the scheme, which is to be submitted to the Scotch depositors in Glasgow, on the 23rd inst, and to the English in London on the 25tli.

At a meeting of the National Bank of New Zealand, Mr Jas Macandrew, the Chairman, said the results for the year were satisfactory and the prospects of the future, hopeful. At Home, the deposits showed a decrease, but this was more than balanced by the increased deposits in tho Colony.
